Protect your mind. Guard your thoughts. Do not start the day with the news (mostly bad). Start with prayer and meditation. Strengthen your inner life so you can be equipped to deal with your outer challenges.
One more thing, do not go to bed after watching the news (mostly bad). News are bite-sized tragedies and would not be good for you to bring them with you to sleep. Marcus Aurelius says: “The quality of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.” He is right.
