The Inspiring Leader

If you want to inspire your team as a leader, do not impress them by showing them how amazing you are. You actually inspire them by showing them how amazing they are and how more amazing they can be. That’s what good leaders do.

Isn’t it wonderful to be working with inspiring leaders?

The work may still be challenging and the volume may still be high but you just love working and growing with them.

“If your action inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more you are a leader” ~John Quincy Adams

Humble Bragging

There are those who pretend to be humble yet if you read through the lines and you know for certain that they are bragging. This is called “Humble Bragging.”

And then there are those who try to downplay their achievements and refuse to call attention yet everybody can see how good they really are. I think this always the best.

Being right is a good thing; better than being wrong. But being right all the time is a tremendous burden to carry. Some insist they are right all the time. Not possible. Be willing to accept correction humbly and graciously. It has been said that correction of mistakes is the first step of success.

There are many stars and are overrated. And then there are many role models and they are unappreciated. That’s ok. Role models do not need to bask in the limelight. They have a beautiful and distinctive shine of their own. You do not have to be a star but you will certainly shine through your humility, work excellence and beauty of character.

Don’t brag about yourself. Let others praise you. ~Proverbs 27:2

Give It Your Best Shot

To be the best is not possible for everyone. Imagine a world full of 7+ billion best people? Doesn’t even make sense. Life does not demand from us to be the best. But it is good for us to give it our best shot.

Always shoot to deliver more and better than what is required. This concept is called “excellence.” Make this your daily theme.

Life is not a dress rehearsal. The curtain is up and we are on, so let’s go out there and give it our best shot.

For those of you who are working on calendar year, it’s two months before the year ends. If you are exceeding targets, do not cruise; give it all you’ve got to know how far you can really go. It’s called stretching.

And if you are behind target do not despair; don’t give up; not now. Put more intensity into what you do and give it your best shot. Numbers are mere indication but efforts matter. There is always dignity and fulfillment in best efforts. Go for it.

Self and Selfie

I bet you have mastered the selfie; the question now is have we mastered the self?

There is a difference between an image and the true person. The image should not be a cover up or a pretension of the person but the real person should make the image connect with reality and this is what makes it beautiful.

When an honest and competent person gives us a negative comment we should be grateful and take that as a feedback designed to improve the self. But when a dishonest, unethical and incompetent person accuses us of being hard and stubborn, then take that as a compliment. They are operating on different standards.

There is power in the ability to evaluate the self. The key however is objectivity and we may be blindsided. This is why feedback from people we trust is important and we should be willing to accept correction. Successful people are always evaluating and improving themselves. The ones who do not are are usually evaluating and judging others.

Quiet People

Quiet people are not necessarily lonely, they may actually be enjoying the silence. People who are loud may not exactly be happy, sometimes they are just good in disguising their sadness. Appearance never tell the entire story.

There’s now what is called “disconnection anxiety”. This is when there’s no Wi-Fi or low-batt or no book or no television. And people become so anxious they don’t know how to handle the situation anymore.

Technology does not have a soul. You and I have. Learn to quiet the soul and be attuned to its Maker.

In the workplace, there are people who do not work much but are good in grabbing credit. There are those who quietly do the work and enjoy their accomplished work. One day the deficiencies of the fakers will be revealed. Meanwhile the quiet performers continue to upgrade their capabilities reaping their rewards. There’s no limit to what can be accomplished if it doesn’t matter who gets the credit.

Rise and Grind

Wake up early and make things happen. Rise and shine, rise and grind. Be kind. Be honest. The next day, do the same thing. Wash, rinse, repeat!

This is what gets me to produce positive results. And when they come, I stay humble. Pray and always fill your mind with good vibes. Then repeat the process. Routine is key to a disciplined life.

In our quest for personal excellence, the most important question is how do I BECOME better, not just ACCOMPLISH things better.

The journey for improvement is not elegant as most people think them to be. It is the consistent sticking to a set of personal disciplines that forms the process of improvement until progress becomes the natural outflow of the effort. The process is more important than the product.

No Excuses

When faced with a difficult situation we can either find a way, make a way but we definitely should not create an excuse. We will never profit from the experience.

We do not succeed all the time but we can always profit by learning from it. Do not loose the lesson even if you lose.

It is better to err on the side of action. This way we can make adjustments. Where there is action there would be movement and adjustments. But when we commit an error on the side of inaction, then we achieve nothing and tend to make excuses. This would be a failure with no redeeming value.

Nobody will care about excuses. Nobody will pity procrastinating. Nobody’s gonna cuddle someone who’s lazy. Its your ass. You move it.

Two Commitments

Two commitments we need to make and this should be done on a daily basis. Do this 24/7 and you have a weekly victory. Do this 52 weeks and you will see substantial progress yearly. Do this a few years and you will see dramatic improvement in your lifetime. And these commitments are:

1. To stay faithful in all of our relationships. (God, family, friends, business dealings)

2. To improve self. (Continuous learning. Willing to be corrected.)

Complete the sentence: “Promises are made to be… ?” I hope you did not say broken. Promises when made should be fulfilled. Commitments should be delivered even when it translates to our own loss. Word said should be as good as gold. This is how one gains credibility and trustworthiness. Many do not know that this is the principle behind sustainable success whether in business or career. But those who do they experience true success.
